The Quantum Quest is a web class for high school students, organized by the University of Amsterdam and QuSoft. During 2021, it will run for the third time.

The quantum computer is a computer of the future. Instead of working with bits that have two states (0 and 1), quantum computers work with quantum bits which can be in an infinite number of possible states. They can solve certain difficult problems much faster than we know using ordinary computers and also pave the way for new scientific explorations. Researchers at universities and in industry are working hard to build this fascinating device. But how does a quantum computer actually work and how can it be programmed?

Starting November 5, 2021, we will take you on a five-week adventure to learn the basics of quantum computing. By the end of it, you will understand what quantum bits and quantum algorithms are and what they are good for. The program is aimed at high school students in the last 2 years before university, or university students in their first year (roughly 16-20 years old). The mathematics can be very challenging - compare them to the most difficult math electives at high schools.

Throughout this course, we will stay in touch via the chat platform Discord. There, you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow students, and we will offer live Q&A sessions to discuss any questions that you might have. We will also use the online platform Canvas, where you will be able to submit your homework solutions. And those of you who stay around until the end will get a certificate (and perhaps even a prize)!
